Carefully examine the affected area to determine the severity of the sunburn. Look for redness, pain, swelling, and blistering.
Apply a cool compress or take a cool bath or shower to help reduce inflammation and soothe the burn. Avoid extremely cold temperatures.
Apply a moisturizer or aloe vera gel to help hydrate the skin and prevent dryness and peeling. Choose fragrance-free lotions.
Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, to help your body recover from sun exposure and prevent dehydration.
Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help manage discomfort associated with sunburn.
Stay out of direct sunlight until the sunburn heals completely. Use sunscreen with a high SPF when you need to go outside.
Monitor the burn for signs of infection, such as increased pain, swelling, pus, or fever. Seek medical attention if necessary.
